Navigating the Cost of Living Crisis – maybe I can help!

In these challenging economic times, many of us are feeling the pinch. With rising costs and stagnant wages, it's no wonder we're all looking for ways to make our money go further. If you're like me, you might have found yourself needing to make up for a significant decrease in salary. In my case, it was a 20% drop from November. It's a daunting prospect, but there are solutions out there if you know where to look.

Utility Warehouse – really?

For years, I'd heard about Utility Warehouse (UW) from various networking circles. You know the pitch - save money by bundling all your utilities into one bill. I'll admit, I was sceptical. It sounded too good to be true, and I brushed it off as potentially scammy. However, my perspective changed dramatically after a conversation with Kate Irving from the Redditch Sterling group.

Kate took the time to explain both aspects of the UW business model:

1. Saving money on your own bills

2. Helping others save money on their bills

As she patiently answered my barrage of questions, I began to see the potential. Intrigued, I decided to do my own research.

The Facts About Utility Warehouse

What I discovered was eye-opening:

- UW is a FTSE 250 company, indicating its significant market presence and financial stability.

- They boast over a million customers, a testament to their widespread appeal.

- Which? magazine voted UW as the BEST energy supplier in 2024, a prestigious accolade in the industry.

But the real proof of the pudding is in the savings. Of the first six people Kate and I met with, the biggest saving was over £1,000 a year, with an average saving of over £500. These are substantial figures that could make a real difference to many households.

A Timely Solution

As we approach the festive season and brace ourselves for the January credit card bills, finding ways to save money becomes even more crucial. UW's offerings could provide a much-needed financial buffer during this expensive time of year.

The UW Advantage

One of UW's standout features is its new fixed energy tariff. As of December 2024, UW has launched a fixed energy tariff that's £158 below the current price cap[1]. When the price cap rises to £1,738 in January, UW customers on this tariff could save £179, potentially making it the "cheapest" option available in the UK[1].

Here's a breakdown of the offerings:

Please note that these were correct when I wrote this but prices can change day to day and area to area.

- The Fixed Saver 32 tariff allows households to lock in energy costs at just £1,559 until November 30, 2025[1].

- For customers who bundle their energy with two other UW services (broadband and mobile), there's an additional £50 bill credit, reducing the tariff to £1,509 for the next 12 months - £208 below the cap[1].

- Even for customers opting for energy plus one additional service, the two-service Fixed 32 tariff costs £1,608 for the next 12 months, representing a £109 saving below today's cap and £130 below the January cap[1].

More Than Just Energy Savings

UW isn't just about energy savings. We offer a range of services that can be bundled together for maximum savings including broadband and mobile phone services

Plus, UW offers a cashback card that earns up to 10% cashback at a range of retailers, with the cashback taken directly off your monthly bill[3].

This week, one of the first households I visited contacted me to say how impressed they are with the UW app (which shows you just how much you are saving off your bill) by using your UW card for normal, every day expenditure like food and petrol. She said she felt like a little girl again watching the money in her piggy bank grow!

Customer Service Excellence

UW isn't just about savings; we're also committed to providing excellent customer service. In fact, we've recently been ranked in the top quartile for energy customer service in the UK by Citizens Advice, outperforming many mainstream suppliers[5].

Is UW Right for You?

While UW offers significant potential savings, it's important to do your own research and calculations. Compare the bundled services with what you'd pay for each service individually from other providers. This will ensure you're getting the best overall deal.
